I recently received my 2017 Cook Co property tax bill and was surprised to see they estimated my home market value to have increased by over $53k since last year. I checked comps in my neighborhood and there is no sales trend to support that increase in evaluation. I have appealed; but all the comps in my neighborhood appear to have received the same over-evaluation and subsequent assessed property tax increase. Since the appeal process primarily uses area comps as its basis for valuation and most if not all comps in my area received the same preposterous gigantic increase in "fair" market valuation; is there any formal protest or action planned by the village?
