Thank you for contacting us regarding the pavement condition in Fairway Subdivision. The streets in Fairway were last paved in 1996. Due to the age, the pavement has reached a point where annual maintenance patching is required.
The village works with Applied Research Associates (ARA) to monitor the pavement condition on all public streets in Orland Park. ARA reviews the village street condition annually and makes recommendations on how to most effectively use the available budget. Fairway is tentatively scheduled on ARA’s list for 2019-24 dependent on funding. Fairway is one of our ICE (Improvement Coordination Efficiencies) project areas scheduled for water main replacement and storm water improvements. Based on expected funding, the water main work will be separated into several areas and is expected to begin in 2018. It is expected that the storm water improvement at Schussler Pond will fall within this time frame also, possibly beginning in late 2017. Both projects will necessitate excavations in the sidewalk, curb and pavement resulting in multiple patches. It would not be prudent to repave/reconstruct the pavement only to disturb it a short time later. As we finalize the Capital Budget in the coming year, we should be able to narrow down the schedule for the street work.
In the meantime, we will continue to address any potholes with the Durapatcher. If there are sections deteriorated beyond what is reasonable for the Durapatcher, we will have a contractor remove and replace patches as needed. You can expect to see the contractor patching several areas this spring.
We also spoke with our Development Services Department about possible reconstruction plans for John Humphrey Drive. At this time, the village has initiated an engineering study for the intersection of 143rd and John Humphrey Drive. The majority of this study is federally funded and projects utilizing federal funds typically take three to five years to be approved in order for construction to start.
If you have additional questions about these future road plans, feel free to contact our Development Services Dept. at (708) 403-5300.
Thank you again for communicating your concerns about our roads.
